The band started out as a stage band with most players coming from the Brighton Concert Band (now the City of Holdfast Bay Concert Band). It was known as the Triple B Big Band and played for many years as the Triple B. In 2005, it was decided that the band should have a more upbeat name and after much discussion, it became Lindy Hip. The name is a derivative of the popular swing dance of the 40s and 50s called Lindy Hop. This dance formed the basis of Rock & Roll. The band is incorporated under the music centre constitution and along with the concert band, forms the backbone of the music centre. The band practices on Monday nights at the City of Holdfast Bay Music Centre on Lipson Ave, Seacliff.
